City Scenes
a workshop/project for Akron Children's Hospital Medical Center

A four-session summer workshop at the Akron Art Museum introduced block printing to families who created the artwork for installation in the Bowery Professional Building of Akron Children's Hospital.

From the City Scenes Project description:
The purpose of involvement in this workshop is to create a piece of artwork, as a group, to be permanently installed in the new Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron Medical Office Building. The primary medium of this project is linoleum print, although elements of collage may be added to the finished piece.

This is a commissioned artwork and therefore serious consideration must be given to who it is for, where it will be displayed and who its audience will be. Although there are always restrictions on commissioned pieces, the work is still creative and the exposure can be very rewarding. By participating in this workshop students will:
- realize the importance and excitement of creating a truly wonderful piece of artwork that will be seen and enjoyed by many people for many years to come and
- learn what it is like to work on commission and stay on schedule and within specifications in contrast to creating artwork for self.
